The top circle is where the surgeons cut, rotated and ground pieces together.
T
he middle circle is just hollow from the collision.
T
he bottom circle shows a huge gap where the surgeons cut the bone and swung it down for a more natural look.
While not circled, you can see the very top all filled in now.
The top circle is a piece of cortical bone graft (my hip) screwed into the underlying mandible.
The bottom circle shows the same thing, the large gap filled by hip bone.
Of course, all of it is filled in with the hip marrow.
Here the work has been performed, cuts made, splices made and the plate firmly positioned and attached with somewhere around 22 screws. And now the bone graft osseus material has been plastered into place, like human spackle.  Everywhere there is bone marrow, new bone will grow.  The body's quite kewl.
